Meals on Wheels’ Hunger Strike is a pledge-driven team-bowling event that serves as the agency’s second largest fundraiser. Organize a five-person team with a goal of $500 (or $250 for a five person student team) and enjoy 2 games of bowling, raffles, and many door prizes at the bowling centers.  This year we are expecting 60 teams and believe it will be the best Hunger Strike yet!

Over the past 3 years, the staff of Meals on Wheels and the Central Virginia Foodbank have been hard at work, raising money together to build our jointy operated Community Kitchen, that now produces thousands of healthy meals daily for at-risk children, and for the more than 750 homebound residents we serve each day at Meals on Wheels. 

Meals on Wheels and the Central Virginia Foodbank are now taking this collaboration to the next level. Effective July 1, 2008, the Boards of Directors of the Central Virginia Foodbank, and Meals on Wheels have formed a combined nonprofit (501(c)(3)) entity, named Feed More, Inc  which will operate as a holding company for the three distinct groups, or LLC's:  Meals on Wheels Serving Central Virginia, Central Virginia Foodbank and the Community Kitchen.

For the past six months, our new, environmentally-friendly Community Kitchen has prepared thousands of evening meals for local children in need. Now, this state-of-the-art facility is adding to the menu individual meals for hundreds of area elderly and homebound citizens. We need your help to get these meals ready for home delivery to Meals on Wheels clients.

Every weekday morning, from 9 - 12:30 or afternoon from 1:30 - 4:00, we need individual or group volunteers. If you’re part of an office team, civic association, or club, bring your friends and associates to help together, or come alone to have fun working with other people who want to make a difference.
