In addition to providing up to three meals and the personal touch of a volunteer, Meals on Wheels also works to meet the additional needs of our clients. Here are just a few of the many services we provide:
- Microwaves are provided, at no cost, to those clients who need one to heat their meals.
- Shelf-stable Emergency Meals for use in the event of weather that interrupts regularly scheduled meal delivery.
- Pet food delivered monthly for clients who have dogs or cats.
- Holiday gifts and birthday cards for Meals on Wheels clients.
- Liquid nutritional supplements, such as Boost or Ensure, for clients needing additional calories or protein due to unintentional weight loss, cancer treatment, etc.
- Donated box fans and air-conditioning units are provided during the hot summer months for at-risk clients in need.
- Registered dieticians to provide nutritional counseling and education
- Case managers to assess our clients’ mental and physical needs and provide links to resources and support. May include assistance with medications, medical supplies and fuel assistance.
- Connections with groups and individuals who can provide transportation to medical appointments.
- Flu and pneumonia vaccines provided to clients in their homes by Instructive Visiting Nurses Association.
