Job Description: Driver/Rider
- Needed at all 13 distribution locations daily, roughly 11:00-1:00.
- Use own car and gas to deliver meals to homebound adults along a pre-determined route.
- Drivers must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
- Report any problems and concerns regarding directions or the meal recipients to the Meals on Wheels office at 673-5035.
- Meals will be labeled with the recipient’s name. At each stop, it is the volunteer’s responsibility to see that the correct meal is delivered to the correct person.
- Volunteers are given specific instructions as to how to respond to possible delivery problems, such as persons not answering the door, during orientation prior to volunteering.
- The “average” Meals on Wheels route delivers to approximately 12 people and covers about 15 miles.
NOTE: Volunteer orientation is held every Wednesday at 2:00 at the Willow Lawn location. Volunteer Orientation at the satellite sites is conducted separately by the site staff. On-site orientations for groups or businesses providing volunteer teams can be arranged.
Job Description: Loader (Willow Lawn Site Only)
- Assist in unloading food from walk-in refrigerator to be packed in coolers.
- Assist in loading coolers into volunteers’ vehicles.
- Time Commitment: 10:30 am until approximately 11:30 am. Loaders must be able to lift moderately heavy containers and are responsible for ensuring the correct containers are going on correct routes.
Job Description: Packer (Willow Lawn Site Only)
- Sort and pack already pre-packaged food under the supervision of Meals on Wheels staff member.
- Must be detail oriented, able to read small labels on each food item.
- Time commitment: 10 am until 11:30 am.
